Day 25
Jesus’
Miracles: healing
Read: Luke 5:12-13; 18:35-43
The
most common miracle Jesus performs is healing.
Sickness, a reality in our world, was never God’s intention. In heaven, where God’s rule is complete,
there’s no sickness. But for now we live in an age in which scientific medicine,
and commonly practiced alternative therapies can bring about a good deal of
physical healing; and one where there is increasing
emotional pain in our lives.
Divorce, sexual sin, family breakdowns, the cares of life, and stress
have brought us increasing brokenness.
Today’s
readings portray a couple of keys in receiving God’s healing. From the “Healing of the Leper” (5:12-13) we see
Jesus’ desire to heal. He says “I am willing” in response to the
leper’s request for healing. Key #1:
God’s heart is that we be whole. While our physical and emotional healing
journey may never be complete this side of eternity, never doubt God’s desire
for our wholeness.
The
“Healing of Blind Bartimaeus” (18:35-43)
gives Key #2: We must want healing
and accept the responsibility-demands which living in wholeness brings. Jesus asked a blind man what he wanted!! Blind man - seems obvious; yet too many remain
unwell because they are not prepared to address poor lifestyple choices as part
of the problem for their health. Wanting wholeness/healing, without accepting
responsibility for one’s stress filled, physically inactive, grudge keeping
life. Healing does not operate that way! In preferring to remain victims rather
than bringing pain and brokenness to God; the Jesus’ question “what do you want?” means when we seek
healing through Jesus, we are accepting his’ direction in our lives.

our broken world we can rediscover Jesus’ healing ministry
Consider
(respond)
- What would a healing through
Jesus look like for.............?
